For builders & site supervisors
Please run through this checklist before our tilers are booked to start. A site that's roof-ready means no lost days, no return-visit charges and a clean, on-schedule install.
Trusses and rafters fully fixed, braced and inspected. No outstanding frame carpentry on the roof plane.
High or sagging members corrected — tiles will telegraph any unevenness in the frame.
Any protruding beams cut back so they don't foul the tile line.
Fixed, straight and set to the correct height above the top of the rafter for the batten being used: 65mm for 38×38 battens, 50mm for 50×25 battens.
Tiles must overhang into the gutter — guttering goes on before tiling, not after.
Skylights, chimneys, dormers etc. installed so we can cut around them.
Any metal roofing that tiles lap over the top of, or are scotched in against, installed beforehand.
Cladding and flashings installed to first-floor walls before roof tiling is called up for the ground floor. Cladding must finish at least 100mm above the rafter so the batten and tile can slide underneath the wall and flashing.
All flashings in place before tiling, not after.

Cappings fixed to all parapet walls before tiling.
Flashings that must go in at tile cover stage flagged with us — including Dutch gable flashings, flashings under valleys at raised porches, and wrap-around eaves where the eave runs out to no eave. Note: these are not a roof tiling item and must be called up with the roof plumber, unless requested from us at job order stage.
Compliant guard rails or scaffold to all working edges. No rail, no tilers on the roof.
A clear, stable access route to the roof for the crew.
No trades, materials or obstructions stacked against walls where we need scaffold and ladder positions.
Any nearby powerlines flagged — affects crane/tile-elevator placement.
All floor and roof voids covered, with handrails fitted wherever a fall hazard exists.
Where the site is affected by a clearway, tram tracks, bus stop or similar restriction, traffic management must be arranged prior to delivery.
A clear area to stack and distribute tiles around the roof.
240V supply for electrical equipment. If no power is available, generator hire will be charged at $150.00 per day.
Required for the crew for the duration of the job.
Including any non-stock/imported colours — Bristile terracotta can carry a 16+ week lead time.
Sarking specification agreed per plans/BAL rating, and any roof ventilation requirements (whirlybirds, vents, breathable sarking) confirmed before start day.
